Address book - Outlook

Rainmail Server, by default, exposes Global Address book using LDAP. However, if you are using Rainmail Server - Enterprise Edition, Global Address book is also exposed using SyncML. SyncML is more powerful than LDAP and if you have the Rainmail Server - Enterprise Edition, we would recommend that you skip this part and use SyncML to configure Outlook.

The following steps are given for configuring Global Address book (using LDAP) on Microsoft Outlook 2010 running on a Windows 7 OS.

  1. Run Outlook 2010 by going to Start -> All programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Outlook 2010. In the window that comes up, click on File menu. That will bring up the following window.

  1. Click on Account Settings and select Account Settings from the menu that comes up. In the dialog that comes up, click on Address Books tab. That will bring up the following dialog.

  1. Click on New.. button. That will bring up the following dialog.

  1. Select Internet Directory Service (LDAP) and click on Next >. That will bring up the following dialog.

  1. Enter Rainmail Server IP address (or) Host name in Server Name field. Click on More Settings button. In the dialog that comes up, click on Search tab. That will bring up the following dialog

  1. In the above dialog,
    • Change Specify the maximum number of entries you want to return after a successful search to 500 (or whatever maximum is allowed in the field).
    • In Search Base, select Custom and give the LDAP Base DN parameter.
    • Do not Check Enable Browsing (requires server support)
    • Click OK to close the dialog.
  2. The old dialog reappears. Click on Next > to proceed. That will bring up the following dialog

  1. Click on Finish. Global address book has been successfully configured in Outlook. Restart Outlook for the settings to take effect.
